Interactive storytelling sessions

Storytelling Sessions for Children & Families

Using voice, expression, movement, rhythm and audience participation, I create interactive storytelling sessions where children don’t simply listen to a story — they become part of it.

They might become the wind in a forest, help a character make a decision, join in with a repeated phrase, predict what happens next, create a sound effect — or simply lean in and wonder.

Drawing from folktales, traditional stories, picture books and original stories, every session is adapted to suit the age, setting and audience.

Inside a session

What happens in a storytelling session?

Every session is different, but the focus is always on connection, imagination and participation.

Depending on the story and age group, children may be invited to step into the story in different ways — not simply as listeners, but as participants helping to shape the experience.

Become part of the story

through small roles, movement and imagination

through emotions, expression and different voices

Respond & create

by sharing ideas, asking questions, singing, clapping, chanting or building soundscapes together

I use minimal props and visual aids so children have space to create the story in their own minds.

Oral storytelling can open up a world where children imagine, interpret, and make the story their own.

Inside a session

Storytelling shaped for the people in the room

No two audiences are quite the same.
I adapt each storytelling session to suit the age group, setting, audience size and purpose of the event — whether I’m storytelling for Early Years, Primary School children, or families and mixed-age community audiences.

Storytelling sessions can be tailored depending on the age group, audience size, and event.
Typical sessions range from approximately 30-45 minutes and may include one longer story or a collection of shorter stories.
For larger events, multiple sessions can also be programmed across the day.

Early Years

Warm, playful and highly interactive

For younger children, storytelling is full of repetition, rhythm, movement, sound and simple participation.

Children might copy an action, join in with a phrase, make a sound, move like a character or help create the rhythm of the story.

The aim is to keep the experience playful and accessible while supporting listening, vocabulary and confidence.

Ideal for:

Libraries • Kindergartens • Early-learning centres • Family programs

Primary School

Richer stories. More to discover.

With older children, stories can become funnier, more dramatic and more thought-provoking.

Children are encouraged to predict, imagine, respond to characters, notice how a story is built and sometimes become part of the action themselves.

Sessions can also open up conversations about character, voice, writing and how stories are created.

Ideal for:

School incursions • Book Week • Author visits • Holiday programs

Families, Festivals & Community Events

Stories to be shared across generations

Storytelling works beautifully when children & adults experience a story together.  I create lively, inclusive sessions designed for mixed-age audiences.

Stories can be curated around a festival, celebration, theme or event, with opportunities for movement, music, participation and play.

Ideal for:

Festivals • Council events • Cultural & Community programs

stories across cultures

Stories from around the world

I have a particular love for folktales and traditional stories — stories that have travelled across generations, places and cultures.

My repertoire includes stories from around the world including Australia and India, alongside contemporary stories and my own work as an author.

Stories can also be selected or curated around a particular theme, celebration or idea, depending on your audience and event.

Nature Stories

Tales inspired by animals, seasons, landscapes and the natural world, inviting children to notice, wonder and imagine.

Family & Growing Up

Stories about relationships, change, everyday experiences and the small moments that shape who we become.

Kindness & Friendship

Warm, engaging stories about helping others, making connections and the ripple effect of thoughtful choices.

Belonging & Courage

Stories that explore finding your place, facing uncertainty and discovering the courage to take a step forward.

Imagination

Playful stories that open the door to impossible worlds, unusual characters and wonderfully unexpected possibilities.

Cultural Celebrations

Stories connected with festivals, traditions and cultural experiences, shared in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

Stories that move between languages

Storytelling sessions are available in English, Hindi, or a bilingual Hindi–English format.

Bilingual storytelling gives children the opportunity to hear a story move naturally between two languages — while experiencing the expressions, rhythms and cultural nuances that language brings to the way a story is told.

Rather than translating every sentence word for word, the two languages can flow together as part of the storytelling experience.

Book a storytelling session for your audience

I offer storytelling sessions for schools, kindergartens, libraries, festivals, council programs and community events.

Sessions can be tailored to suit your age group, audience, setting and event goals, and can also be curated around a particular theme, celebration or topic.
