What happens in a Creative Workshop

Step inside a story. Then make it your own.

Participants are invited to enter the world of a story rather than simply sit and receive it. We might act out a story, take it apart to discover its “bones”, explore its characters and choices, imagine different possibilities, or create entirely new stories together.

Participants are encouraged to contribute ideas, experiment, ask questions, move, speak, listen, and respond to one another.

The activities are designed to gently help participants shed inhibitions and build confidence in expressing themselves, while encouraging imagination, curiosity, collaboration, and creative thinking.

These are highly interactive group experiences, with room for both confident participants and those who prefer to observe before joining in.

The emphasis is not on getting a story “right”, but on discovering, experimenting, and enjoying the creative process. Depending on the age group and the nature of the workshop, participants may explore:

How a story begins, develops, and ends

Characters, settings, problems, and possibilities

Movement, voice, expression, and role-play

Improvisation & spontaneous storytelling

Listen and build on others’ ideas

Building original stories individually or as a group

At the heart of each workshop is a simple idea: stories are not only things we receive — they are things we can question, reshape, inhabit, and make our own.

Choose an Experience

Creative Workshops

Three age-specific ways to explore stories, expression and imagination.

01 / Storytelling & drama

Story Play

Prep 45 minutes

Storytelling, Movement & Drama

Story Play invites children to step inside a story and bring it to life through movement, expression, sound, and imaginative play.

Using a shared story as the starting point, children explore characters, actions, emotions, and key moments through guided drama activities. They may become characters, create sound effects, act out scenes, use simple movement sequences, or help shape how the story unfolds.

The workshop supports:

  • listening and comprehension
  • confidence and self-expression
  • imagination and creativity
  • movement and body awareness
  • emotional understanding
  • collaboration and turn-taking

The focus is on participation rather than performance - giving every child a safe and playful way to experience storytelling from the inside.

02 / Voice & confidence

Voice it Out!

Years 1-2 45 minutes

Public Speaking, Storytelling & Drama

Voice It Out! introduces young children to public speaking through storytelling, drama, and play.

Through character work, movement, voice exercises, and interactive story-based activities, children explore how to express themselves with greater confidence, clarity, and imagination.

The workshop supports skills such as:

  • voice projection and expression
  • body language and movement
  • listening and responding
  • speaking in front of others
  • understanding and expressing emotions
  • using imagination to create characters and stories

By stepping into different roles and characters, children also begin to explore empathy, emotional expression, and different points of view.

The workshop concludes with a short group performance, giving every child an opportunity to put their new skills into action.

03 / Storytelling & writing

Story Makers

Years 3 - 4 60 minutes

Storytelling & Creative Writing

Story Makers helps children explore the building blocks of storytelling before using them to create stories of their own. Great writing begins with understanding how stories work.

Through engaging stories, discussion, and creative exercises, children explore:

  • creating interesting characters
  • building a strong story structure
  • developing conflict and resolution
  • adding twists and surprises
  • exploring emotions and character choices
  • using descriptive and expressive writing

Children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and discover their own storytelling voice.

By the end of the workshop, participants begin developing an original story of their own, bringing together the characters, ideas, and storytelling techniques they have explored.
